In 1886, Claude Monet painted his “Manneporte” series while visiting the village of Etretat, on the Normandy coast.
This piece was inspired by one of Monet’s paintings of “Le Manneporte near Etretat,” a massive limestone natural arch along Normandy’s Alabaster Coast.
Great care was taken to capture the core tenet of Impressionism. The oil pastels allowed me to emulate the “broken color” technique that the Master, Claude Monet Championed.
My fondness for Impressionism can be seen in the rich texture of the pastels creating a sense of moving water and atmospheric light.
